Milano

Life in Milan centers around the area of the Duomo, a huge Gothic cathedral,
with more than 2,000 statues and over 140 spires, with a large gold Madonna
at the top. Constructed in the late 1300's, Milan’s Duomo Cathedral is the world’s
largest Gothic cathedral, and has become the premier landscape feature and
symbol of Milan. The kids were impressed, yes, but the main attraction was...the pidgeons!

Next to the Duomo is the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele, It is often called "the living room of Milan" or "street under the glass. Built in the late 1800's, architect Mengoni created the Galleria in the shape of a rectangular cross. Above it is covered with a dome of glass and iron. In the center of the gallery is one of the symbols of Milan - a mosaic bull, directly on the floor under the glass dome. This famous bull mosaic is said to make your wish come true if you make a full turn over the balls with the heel of your foot. You will always see someone making the spin and there is often a lineup waiting their turn. Because of this tradition, there is a deep hole for your heel in the mosaic. And If you have tons of money to burn, there are many overpriced bookstores, restaurants and famous shops such as Prada, Tods, Louis Vuitton, and surprisingly, McDonald's.
